HISTORY
PRESIDENT: SIR DAVID LUMSDEN
CHAIRMAN: MARK SNELGROVE
The Nottingham Bach Society, now called the Nottingham Bach Choir, was founded in 1954 by our President, Sir David Lumsden, when he was organist at St. Mary’s Church, Nottingham.
There are now more than a hundred members who meet on Tuesday evenings, either at St Mary’s or St John's Church, Carrington to enjoy rehearsals for the concerts we perform each season.
The Choir is grateful for the long association with St. Mary’s and is fortunate to be able to perform most of its concerts in the church.
The Choir has enjoyed a series of distinguished conductors, including Sir David Lumsden, the late Professors Ivor Keys and Denis Arnold, Professor Robert Pascall, and Professor John Morehen.
Besides the works of J. S. Bach, the Choir’s repertoire is wide, ranging from the late Renaissance composers. Palestrina and Tallis, to 20th century masters such as Britten, Vaughan Williams, Howells, Poulenc, Duruflé and Rutter.
